A Physician Associate (PA) is a healthcare professional trained in the medical model to work alongside doctors, providing care under their supervision. PAs assess, diagnose, and manage patients with a wide range of conditions in primary or secondary care settings. They take medical histories, perform physical examinations, request and interpret tests, and develop treatment plans. While they are not doctors, PAs play a vital role in improving patient access to timely and effective care.

Health Care Assistant (HCA) Description
A Health Care Assistant (HCA) in a GP practice supports the clinical team—GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals—by carrying out essential tasks that help deliver effective patient care. HCAs are not registered nurses but are trained to perform a wide range of routine procedures and administrative duties under supervision.
